Mission Statement

We aim to inspire and support the creative aspirations and overall wellbeing of the people who work, study and play with us. We encourage people to develop their gifts, and help them offer those gifts to the world.Through this, they learn to create fulfilling lives for themselves. The local Peruvian people we serve don't normally have access to the creative healing services we offer (Yoga, Reiki, Art and Music classes, etc.). By offering free classes, therapies and workshop space, we aim to enhance the overall wellbeing of local people in a way that helps them reach their creative potential.

Director Bio

Nicole Coate I am the founder of Healing House, originally from the US and now a Peruvian resident. I teach and practice yoga and Reiki, direct many art and music workshops and events, and oversee our work with local people, among many other things. Omprakash volunteers can expect to work directly with me as well as our other long-term volunteers. When working with interns and volunteers, one of my main objectives is to help the person find aspects of their job that they love, and helping them to explore their talents and gifts in relation to their position here.

Volunteer Information:

Average Daily Cost: $27.00 Cost Breakdown:

We offer lodging for $200 to $400US per month, and provide breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday.

$50 to $70 per week should cover food costs. (Depending on the arrangement, we sometimes provide meals during the week, in which case, additional costs for food (snacks, dinner, and weekends) would be $20 to $40 per week.)

Transport: $3-5 each way from airport or bus terminal on arrival and departure.

Accommodation Info

Private or shared rooms w/beautiful shared living spaces(garden&lawn; 2patios, balconies, kitchens, living rooms; hammocks). Rooms range from $250US for the shared volunteer room to $340US-$460US/month. Rent includes utilities&discounts on yoga&treatments. Meals are not included but very economical. The house rules of our holistic living space: vegetarian kitchen, no smoking or drugs, moderate consumption of alcohol, no overnight guests, be mindful, please do at least one nice thing for the house each week(fix something, buy flowers...anything that you can do&love!). We are here to help support you too...maybe you want to host a workshop or class, sell something you make, etc.

Travel Logistics

We prefer long-term volunteers, but some of our positions can allow for a one-month minimum stay. At any given time, we operate with about 5 alternative therpaists, and have room for 2 yoga teachers, 2 art leaders, 5 art aids, and 2 art/music teachers.

Healing House Programs: Creative Kids Program Our Creative Kids Program offers free weekly art and music workshops for local children. The idea is to get the kids creating, and through that to teach them new ways of thinking about the world and about their futures. We use theater, dance, painting and

The idea is to get the kids creating, and through that to teach them new ways of thinking about the world and about their futures. We use theater, dance, painting and drawing, collage, yoga, instruments and singing, and other forms of expression, always with a daily theme aimed at development and awareness. After class, we offer healthy snacks. Creative Moms Program Many of the mothers (of the kids we work with) are artisans. We help these women sell their products (weavings, blankets, jewelry, hats and scarves, sweaters, etc.), at our own store and beyond! Through this, we not only help the families earn money, but we directly support the creative expression and talents of the artisans. Therapies for People in NeedWe offer free therapies to local people in need. These include therapeutic massage, Reiki, acupuncture, reflexology, art therapy, yoga therapy, and other services. We match up volunteering therapists with local people, and aim for them to establish a regular treatment schedule/relationship so that the client can benefit as much as possible. Yoga We offer all of our yoga classes free of charge to local people. We offer several classes per week in Spanish, and also host a weekly yoga relaxation class designed for beginners in order to help newcomers feel comfortable. We host one weekly class free of charge to foreigners as well as locals. Meditation We host regular meditation classes (either in Spanish or translated into Spanish) free of charge to all people (traveler or local). We create a comfortable, non-denominational environment, and our classes are suitable for beginners. We structure the class as part informative and part practice, and leave time for sharing and questions at the end of each session. Health and Wellness PresentationsWe host talks and presentations about health and wellness, such as nutrition and environmentalism. These events are sometimes free to all people, and other times we accept donations to support our projects. Living Space, Supporting CreativityWe work with local Peruvians and the travelers who visit us, as well as the people who live at the house. Healing House is a shared holistic living space where people from across the globe can develop their gifts and use them to inspire and educate not only one another, but also their communities at home. The idea is that while a volunteer is staying with us, they are developing their own creative gifts, and offering them to their co-workers and the local Peruvian people. For locals and foreigners alike, we help people support themselves through their creativity. We’ve helped artists to showcase and sell their photos and jewelry, and authors and chefs to host workshops. We have helped blossoming yoga teachers who want a chance to start teaching, and musicians who need the space and guidance to create. We believe that as each of us pursues our creative dreams, we not only bring beauty into the world and liberate energy that needs to be expressed for our own wellbeing—we also put into practice our capacity to create fulfilling lives for ourselves.
