Christmas Day Boat Race

January 13, 2012

Haiti Communitere, Haiti

On Christmas Day every year the fishermen of Cite Soleil have a boat race. This year Haiti Communitere along with partner Disaster Wear rented a boat from the fishermen’s collective to participate in the race. Disaster Wear also helped to match the amount of paint purchased by the fishermen so that many of the boats could get fresh paint in time for the race. The HC and Disaster Wear boat arrived at the dock at 9am with the rest of the participating boats. The vessel was manned by David Lees, Sam Bloch, Brian Wolford, Phillip Cregg and, most importantly, Antonio the fisherman. After what some might call an unsteady start the boat and it’s crew came into their own and were able to join the pack of boats racing through the...

HC Hosts 47 Doctors for the Holidays

January 13, 2012

Haiti Communitere, Haiti

Over the Christmas and New Years Holiday, Haiti Communitere hosted a group of 47 medical professionals from the United States. Using the Resource Center as a central base, the group was able to run medical clinics daily, working in Port Au Prince, Gonaives, and Leogane. Haiti Communitere boosted the Resource Center’s capacity in preparation for the group, with a flurry of activity leading up to their arrival as new bunk beds and toilets were built, additional staff were hired, and the whole Resource Center was given a face lift. Even with more than 70 people sleeping, eating and showering on base it was a terrific week. Haiti Communitere looks forward to the opportunity to host more large groups in the future, offering our resources and experience to the NGO Community....

Releasing the Warthogs

January 11, 2012

Daktari Bush School and Wildlife Orphanage, South Africa

We have some big news to start off 2012 - we have said our tearful goodbyes to our two lovable warthogs Miranda and Samantha. After taking care of them for a year, in which they grew bigger and bigger, it was time for them to live their own life! Tempting the pigs onto the back of the bakkie
Happy in their new home!
