October is Earth Science Month here at CREAR, and what better way to start it off than with a week learning about plants and seeds? As we educate the kids of Samara, and the surrounding communities, on how plants grow, the organization is undergoing changes, and growing as well.

CREAR recently implemented a number of changes to its programming and now offers a much more structured curriculum. But don’t let the word “structured” mislead you into thinking that CREAR is all business. The free, after-school programs are just as much fun as they are educational.

One of the most popular activities this past week was building a “pop bottle terrarium.” After a lesson on plants, the kids had a chance to get their hands dirty and grow their own. This affordable activity entertained kids ranging in age from three to twelve-years-old.

Now, as we move forward with Earth Science Month, and begin to learn about astronomy instead, the children can come back each day to learn more, have some fun, and check on the progress of their growing plant!
