Circle of Women
Cambridge, Afghanistan
Circle of Women: Reach and Teach Across Borders is a student-run, non-profit organization founded in 2006. We believe that educating young women is a key to promoting social change and prosperity at the grassroots level. We build and support sustainable secondary schools in partnership with local communities to make the classroom more accessible to young women in developing countries.

Current Projects
Project Wonkhai
In partnership with local leaders, Circle of Women built a secondary school in Wonkhai, Afghanistan that serves 1200 girls. Doors opened in April 2009.
Project Keiri Reki
Along with finalizing Project Wonkhai’s self-sustainability and impact study, Circle of Women focused on a large-scale re-building of the Keiri Reki School for Girls, a school in the village of Nathiagali, Northwest Frontier Province, Pakistan that was devastated by an earthquake in 2005.
Project Bangladesh
In 2010, Circle of Women announced the preliminary stages of our third project, originally designed to be a secondary school in Bangladesh. We have since reconsidered the original plan and location to explore other opportunities that will increase our potential for impact in Bangladesh. We remain committed to working in this school.
We will make this school self–sustainable and revenue generating by implementing a rainwater collection and distribution program created by our Princeton chapter. By designing our school with a building plan suitable for rainwater collection, we will be able to harvest rainwater, store it, and sell it to local businesses, banks, and service centers that are in need of a constant water with the goal of achieving sustainability in three years. This venture is a part of the evolving model of Circle of Women, which encourages innovation and ef- forts towards sustainability and would address a very crucial concern of water quality in Bangladesh. In addition to providing clean water to these businesses, this venture will incorporate an entrepreneurial educational aspect to the school and will engage the girls in the collection of rainwater. This will not only instill in them a basic understanding of health concerns related topoor water quality but will equip the girls with a business acumen and vocational skills.
Project Rhema
Under the Circle of Women’s Georgetown chapter, we have partnered with The Rhema Partnership, a UK based charity that has been working in the area for a decade, to accomodate these girls who have recently been denied access to secondary education. Circle will fund the construction of a“boarding house” on the second story of an orphanage owned and operated by Rhema.
The boarding house will provide the following opportunities:
The space will house an additional 60 girls.
The boarders will attend a private, all-girls school in Cumbum.
The school is only a little over a mile away from the boarding house.
The school currently serves about 800 girls and boatsts an average class size of 40 girls.
