Integrated Rural Education for Change

Integrated Rural Education for Change (IREC) is a non-governmental based in Ghana. The Organization started operation in September, 2006 in twenty (20) deprived and rural communities in the Ejura-Sekyedumase and Adansi North Districts of Ashanti Region, in the area of HIV and AIDS, Malaria Prevention, Sanitation and Hygiene Education.
The Organization was incorporated under the companies code of 1963 (Act179) in May 2008 upon making significant impact in the lives of these disadvantaged people particularly women and children in the poorest part of Ghana.
IREC works to achieve the following objectives among others;
1. The promotion quality education by making it accessible for all young people especially the under priviledged ones in the operational communities.
2. To ensure and sustain quality education in the rural and deprived communities through the promotion of ICT,
3. To provide assistance to the vulnerable and marginalized in the society eg. Children and the aged.
4. To improve the general health status of people by initiating HIV and AIDS Education programmes, Environmental and sanitation Education, Road safety education and hygiene and nutritional programmes.
5. To foster quality livelihood by instituting gender mainstream programmes and offering micro credit to the people.

Current Projects
EDUCATION:
· Provision of educational materials eg computers, reading books, pens, exercise books, toys and school bags to deprived schools in the two Districts.
· Grants and Scholarships assistance to brilliant needy students to pursue Senior High School (SHS) Education.
· Save the Girl Child Initiative
· Computer Education 4-Kids
· Capacity Enhancement Programmes for Untrained Teachers in deprived areas.
· Training of Rural Education Facilitators (REF)
HEALTH:
· Rural-Community Health Education and Talks
· Provision Alternative Christmas Givings.
· HIV and AIDS Project
· Malaria Prevention and Education
· Community Sanitation and Hygiene Education
· Road Safety Education
. Provision potable drinking water in deprived communities
. Provision of toilet facilities in rural areas.
MICRO CREDITS AND SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOOD
· Provision of ‘Life Altering’ support to impoverished women and widows
· Create economic opportunities for Artisan groups in the Districts
· Skills Training and Development eg.batik making, leader works, beads making, wooden works etc
· Financial Services and Enterprise Development.
Partner Needs
IREC currently is housed in rented apartment and therefore requires a permanent office.The Organization's work is concentrated in rural areas where the road networks are very poor. To facilitate movement, Irec will need a four wheel Pick-Up or a land cruiser and some motor bikes.

In Kind Needs
Computers, Printers and accessories, Exercise Books, Pens, School bags and clothings are needed for donation to deprived basic schools, orphans and vulnerable school children in the operational communities.

It exists to alleviate the plight of the vulnerable and the marginalized in the society through the initiation of programmes that promote self-sufficiency and improvement in lives of individuals and families.
