Daktari Bush School and Wildlife Orphanage Every Monday Daktari Bush School and Wildlife orphanage welcomes a new group of 8 local underprivileged children for a week to give them the opportunity to discover, learn and become passionate about wildlife, conservation and their heritage. |
Daktari Bush School and Wildlife Orphanage Daktari is located in the Limpopo Province near the Kruger National Park. It is situated on a 700 hectares private game reserve called Bona Ingwe Game Reserve. So, the children arrive in a protected wild area and often, discover their heritage for the first time...
|
Daktari Bush School and Wildlife Orphanage Every morning, all the students and volunteers have to do chores. It is a good way for the children to come into first contact with wild animals and to realize the importance of taking care of them. |
Daktari Bush School and Wildlife Orphanage Twice a day, Kids and volunteers go on a dog-walk. It permits to the students to make contact with Daktari's team and to feel more confident. It is also a way to show the kids that living with animals requires everyday attention. |
Daktari Bush School and Wildlife Orphanage After the dog-walk, the lessons begin for the children. Daktari's volunteers supplement their school curriculum in English, maths, sciences, geography..
|
Daktari Bush School and Wildlife Orphanage Our one-on-one education method allows us to follow the evolution of the students and to adapt the lessons to the level of each child. |
Daktari Bush School and Wildlife Orphanage After lunch, the students have one hour to relax, have fun and enjoy the swimming pool. |
Daktari Bush School and Wildlife Orphanage During the afternoon, the lessons start again... |
Daktari Bush School and Wildlife Orphanage During their stay, Daktari teaches environmental and animal knowledge. The students have to make a presentation about a chosen animal to their classmates. | Social-talk with Daktari's children Daktari Bush School and Wildlife Orphanage Daktari also focuses its teaching programme on social issues in Limpopo Province. Every day before dinner, students and volunteers talk about respect, environment, safe sex and drug and alcohol abuse. It is a good opportunity for the kids to talk about their problems and to find a concrete solution. | Our children playing... Daktari Bush School and Wildlife Orphanage Every evening, the volunteers play games specially adapted to the children. For these games, the kids need to use the knowledge they have gained at Daktari. | Shiloweni, our leopard!! Celine (Daktari's volunteer) Last weekend, Celine, one of our volunteers, had a vey special experience. She was observing Shiloweni when she saw him catch a dove and come in front of her to eat his prey. This fact reminded us that, even in this enclosure, Shiloweni is still a very dangerous and frightful predator.

| Monkey business at Daktari Andreas Boussery (volunteer at Daktari) Yesterday we received a new marmoset!!!! This a South-American monkey. They are very popular as pets since they are very small. They mostly get aggressive though, so people don't want them anymore. King Kong came from a monkey sanctuary near Nelspruit. He is getting used to his new enclosure and Princess Maya, our other marmoset, now has a little friend to play with. | "Splish splash I was takin' a bath.."
