Rainbow Academy is a non-profit English medium school for disadvantaged, poor and needy children of tea plantation and agricultural daily workers in a rural foothills in Gorubathan, near Darjeeling, India.
It has been started by a handful of christian local people in the year 2007 with their limited internal initiatives, efforts and capacities. The school is a project of Shanti Kunj, a government registered non-profit organisation. It promotes the integrity, accountability and transparency in the management, administration and finance maintaining the required policies, structure and books. The audited statement and activities report are being submitted to the government in every financial year.

Current Projects
1. Residential education from Nursery to Class VII with minimum tuition fees or freeship for very needy by the help of sponsors.
2. Educational exposure of students to nearest interest places and demonstration centres.
3. Health check up of students.
4. Construction of school building in its own donated 0.5 acre land.
Partner Needs
Rainbow Academy is constantly in need of volunteers (both short and long period) who can teach English, extra curricular activities and skills to its student body.
We are also in dire need of a long term Director or Executive who can oversee and execute the overall management of the school.
Financial Needs
1. Salary payment of 10 teachers @ US$ 2000 monthly (expecting to pay according to the present need).
2. Sponsorship of a needy student @ US$ 50 monthly for education in Rainbow Academy upto class VII/VIII.
3. Sponsorship of a needy student @ US$ 150 monthly for education in reputed boarding school outside Gorubathan upto graduation.
4. Construction of a new 2 storied school building according to the norm of Government in a donated 0.5 acre land.
5. Grant writing for self sustainable and self supporing income generation or enterprise on animal husbandry.
In Kind Needs
1. Story, cartoon and handicraft books for students.
2. Learning materials like color pencils and pens, crayons, toys, balls, musical instruments, balloons, etc.
3. Used Computers, printers and modems for learning.
