Mission Statement

Since 2009 I have made five trips to northwest Cameroon,living and working for 6 weeks a year in Fundong and surrounding villages. Working with Better Family Foundation (BFF)based in Fundong, we have completed four water projects,building spring cachements and bringing clean water to over 6000 people.The recycling program we began in 2011 at GBHS,a high school of 1700 students, has been successful. Still collaborating with BFF,we are sponsoring needy children in primary and secondary school. We are continuing our water projects depending on donations.

Director Bio

lois pierris I have always been a great adventure traveler and that is what brought me to Cameroon in 2009. I backpacked around East Africa in the seventies,lived in Greece and Italy and became a restauranteur in Seattle Washington from 1976-2003. During all of these years, I continued as a fine art photographer. Falling back on my early years as a teacher in New York City, I am now incorporating my teaching skills with my photography and video work to realize water projects,educating,and recycling projects in several villages in northwest Cameroon.

The villages in northwest Cameroon are accessible by bus from the city of Douala . Most international flights arrive in Douala in the evening and buses leave morning and evening to Fundong. The travel time from Douala to Fundong by bus is about 7 hours at a cost of $8. I recommend buying two seats on the bus for comfort. Food and lodging will be with a family as there are no short term rentals. The cost can range for a room beginning at $100 a month.

Travel Logistics

I am suggesting that two volenteers at a time would be manageable since these are small villages with limited lodging available. The minimum stay suggested would be 6 weeks and the ideal season is between November and March during the dry season.

SEND A CHILD TO SCHOOL FOR A YEAR:
BFF and Shared World Visions have targeted struggling families who cannot afford tornenroll their children in primary or secondary school. At this moment we are able tornallot $60 per child for primary school and $100 for secondary school. Included besides tuition are books which are returned at the end of

There is a great need for teachers from other countries to help the students with English grammar and conversation. A two month stay or longer would be recommended. There are several families with room and board available from $150 a month.

We are building water catchment systems and connecting them to villages and schools with pvc piping . Stand pipes and water taps are then built and positioned in the villages to give people access to clean water every 200-300 meters.
