Mission Statement

The founders decided to tackle the problem of health with its Health for All mission. The goal of Prayasam has been health education to all and through the process of each one teach one. We endeavour to guide the work force of tomorrow. Prayasam believes in social justice and challenges all forms of discrimination, especially that based on sex, age, social class, disability, sexual preference, religion and race. Through its work with children, the organisation has unique opportunities to transform social attitudes towards gender relations among boys and girls.

Director Bio

Amlan Ganguly Amlan Ganguly is the Founder of Prayasam. His ideas about health education have been recognised globally as both timely and important. Ashoka Innovators for the Public awarded him the prestigious Ashoka Fellowship in 2006. In 2007, he was invited by the Rockefeller Foundation to attend the Urban Summit in Bellagio, Italy and he has contributed to the book, Century of the City: No Time to Lose. Amlan recently received the Ford Fellowship. In 2009, he was profiled in Revolutionary Optimists, a four year documentary film project headed by Stanford University’s Center for Biomedical Ethics, Program in Bioethics and Film.

We agree to arrange housing for the volunteer/s, the cost of the housing to be covered by the volunteer herself / himself, and to cover the volunteer’s travel expenses for work-related travel (not personal or home-to-work travel), translation and publication costs. Furthermore, we agree to provide the volunteers with the resources necessary to complete his / her volunteering.

We understand that Omprkash is placing the volunteer/s with us for the purpose of assisting us in the accomplishment of our mission and objectives. We therefore agree that we shall be responsible, to the best of our ability, for providing a safe and secure work and living environment for the volunteer/s placed with us, and for ensuring the volunteer’s access to medical facilities when required.

Accommodation Info

Accommodations depend upon the availability of hotels and hostels. SLCP can send the photos of different housing options, but they cannot guarantee that the photographed accommodations will be available. Interns will have the option of a private or shared room based on availability.

Travel Logistics

At a time we can accomodate 10 volunteers for a period of 6 to 12 months.

Since its inception, the goal of the Prayasam team has been to ensure that "every child gets healthcare…and living in a healthy environment".
