Overall Rating:
Working with TL was a great experience: I learnt so much about structuring sustainable library programmes, but also felt I could give quite a lot.
Did you feel like you made a difference?:
The libraries that were established in Ladakh were much loved by teachers and students alike. They would NOT have been established in a functional system without the outside catalyst; which TL allowed us to participate in. The local government is not as committed as TL - and that's why only 4/5 stars.
Organization and communication:
Accommodation:
Village homestays can be tough if you're in the right mindset. But I loved them.
Safety:
No problems. I'll add it's very important to be culturally sensitive.
TL's work in remote villages is really important. Teachers often lack knowledge to teach for comprehension - a library can provide that portal. Students love having a safe place they can explore topics they're interested in. They surely don't get that from government texts, nor in the classroom. The library space, and it's resources, are key.
