From 01/01/11 to 28/02/11 we received $92 in donations allocated to a project called Erica's House.

We have used all of the money to cover the costs of the project.

Erica is the mother of premature twins who lived in a shack of bamboo and tarp. We reinforced the walls of her house, built her a new roof and a cot for her children.

Community Development

From 01/01/11 to 28/02/11 we received a $1300 donation allocated to our Community Development Projects.

We have not yet spent the money.

Pisco Sin Fronteras is starting research on new ways that we can help the people of Pisco, by implementing community programmes in areas including health and sexual health education, environmental development, tourism and social work.

This donation will be used to purchase materials required in the course of these new community projects.

$1000 —
BioDiesel Project

In our Biodiesel shack, PSF converts waste vegetable oil from local restaurants into eco-friendly biodiesel. We use the biodiesel to fuel our truck, and also sell it to local fishermen in exchange for some of their catch at the end of the fishing season.

The $1000 figure above has been used to buy the raw ingredients of biodiesel - methanol and caustic soda, on plumbing for the bioreactor, filters and cleaning supplies.

You can read more about our biodiesel project on our webpage here: http://www.piscosinfronteras.org/biodiesel.html

$450 —
Administration Fund

Not all volunteering with PSF means getting dirty - our day to day operation requires lots of coordination from the office.

The $450 above represents funds spent on payment of office bills, transport of staff to sites for assessment, bank charges incurred when transferring funds from Omprakash, basic office supplies and accountant fees.

We take 5% from all donations to cover our administrative costs.

$2000 —
Ludoteca

PSF financially supports a local daycare cente for over 30 children, as well as sending out volunteers every day, to play and teach the children.

The $2000 above has been used to pay Vitalina, the teacher who works at the school, bills, insurance, and cleaning supplies. More importantly the money has been used to purchase learning materials, books, sports equipment and art supplies for the children.

$850 —
Earthbags

PSF are very excited to be working in Pisco with earthbags, a building technique which uses rice bags filled with earth instead of bricks, with barbed wire to hold them together like cement, and rebar reinforcements.

Earthbags are a great technique to use for the construction of permanent buildings in Pisco because of their increased structural stability against seismic activity. They are also cheaper and easier to build, and have reduced environmental impact.

In 2010 we used earthbags to build a wall around a property, and then to begin construction of our earthbag community centre (completed in January 2011), spending $850.

You can read more about PSF's work with earthbags here: http://www.piscosinfronteras.org/earthbag-construction.html

$3150 —
Tools Fund

Without tools there is very little work we can do, as most of our projects are construction or demolition based. New tools, repairs, tool shed consumibles and petrol for our cement mixers always necessary.

$850 —
PSF Truck

This $850 has been used to pay for repairs and upkeep of the truck.

The PSF flat-bed truck is our most valuable asset, transporting volunteers, tools, cement mixers and materials around Pisco. The truck runs all day long on the hot, dusty and bumpy roads of Pisco and therefore needs lots of TLC.

$4500 —
The Miracle Fund

The Miracle Fund holds the money we use to buy the materials for projects which change the lives of people affected by the 2007 earthquake in Pisco

These projects include pouring concrete floors, like those poured for Leonora, Lourdes, Olga, Angela and tens more whose standard of living and health were improved by a few days hard work. Or maybe building a wall or even reinforcing a fence around someone's property to protect a family and their belongings from theft.

We also spent this money on community projects, like the medical centre, community centre and playground we built in El Molino, the compost toilets built in 15 Agosto, the 25 x 3 metre mural painted to decorate an ugly wall, and a Christmas party with presents for local children from an impoverished community just behin the PSF house.

$2400 —
Modular Fund

The Modular Fund contains money donated towards building the most desperate families a complete home, with concrete floor, furniture and sometimes even a bathroom.

Last year we built five modulars for Cesar, Ysmael, Melissa, Delia and the Blind Person's Association. This year we have already completed four in just over two months for Felix, Maria, Norma and Monica, bringing comfort and security to people and their families who have lost almost everything and are still struggling to get by.
