I. Education:
Educational Support for poor school children:
Education is most vital key to ending extreme poverty. Free primary education is constitutionally mandated in India. This may be true in the narrow sense that public schools do not charge for tuition. But the real cost of schooling for parents turns out to be quite high. These “hidden” costs include notes, books, uniforms, exam fees, snacks, sports equipment etc., This hidden costs are the main reason for school dropouts.
SAWED identified 600 school going poor children from 34 villages of Theni and Dindigul District and helped them to continue their education by providing these hidden costs.
Non Formal Education for Working/Street Children:
SAWED running Non Formal Education Centers for working/street children, by offering life skills with minimal theoretical base, in addition to orienting them on small savings, personal hygiene, health, and their legal rights.
School Enrollment Campaign:
SAWED Co-ordinates with local government to take up 100% enrollment of the children in schools. Cultural programme will be organized during the every academic year to the general public to create awareness about the importance of education and the problems of working/street children.
Leadership Camps for School Students:
SAWED Trust successfully organising Leadership & Empowerment Camp since 2007. This leadership camp helped to educate and empower youth through a direct training program focused on leadership, human rights & citizenship, culture basic professional skills and fun. The goal of this camp was to empower and educate destitute youth to become community leaders, while creating awareness, leadership and sense of global citizenship.
II. Women Empowerment:
Tailoring Training Programme:
SAWED is running a Free Tailoring Training Centre in Devadanapatti village for poor women and widows development from past 12 years and so far we have trained 1031 women through our tailoring training centre programme.
Typewriting Training Programme:
SAWED is running a Free Typewritting Training Centre in Devadanapatti village for unemployed youths, college students and school students from past 7 years and so far we have trained 468 youths / students through our typewriting training centre programme.
Computer Training Programme:
SAWED is running a Free Computer Training Centre in Devadanapatti village for women, unemployed youths, college students and school students from past 5 years and so far we have trained 512 people through our computer training centre programme.
III. Economic Development:
Bee-Keeping:
Each selected beneficiary received two bee-keeping unit for their income-generation activities. They are getting regular income through selling the honeys to the local co-operatives / markets.
Goatry Project:
Each selected poor family received three goats to start their venture for their sustainable livelihood. The necessary trainings, insurance coverage and veterinary checkup also are a part in this project.
Traditional Fishing:
Traditional fishing nets was given to selected poor people for their income generation activities and they are getting good seasonal income through selling the fishes to the local people.
