Partnership with Promise World Wide
Project Profile
Promise World Wide is a registered non-profit organization based out of Calcutta, India that aims to help children born in poverty gain access to basic amenities and education. PWW provides education, tutoring, medical care, meals, and school supplies to disadvantaged children in their community. Their goal is to empower these children so they can break the cycle of poverty, and then have a positive influence on those around them and future generations. To learn more about PWW, you can visit their website (www.promiseworldwide.org) or email Ashley (ashley@omprakash.org) or Jaya Basu (jaya@basus.net).
Partnership History
Jaya Basu, one of the founders of Promise World Wide, contacted us in January 2008 and expressed her interest in working with The Omprakash Foundation. Since then, we have become very interested in the work PWW is doing in Calcutta and hope to channel material resources and volunteers to them by representing them on our website.
Need for Volunteers
Promise World Wide welcomes volunteers to its base in Calcutta, India where they can teach, tutor, and mentor the children who benefit from the work of PWW. Arrangements should be made in advance, so if you are interested in volunteering please contact Ashley (ashley@omprakash.org).
Need for Material Resources
Below, please find text sent to us by Promise World Wide. This text provides background of the project and includes a description of current material needs.
Promise world wide has been working with kids who live in slums that they call their home. Promise is now considering a new project with street kids who live in roadside shacks. These kids don’t have any sort of exposure to a civilized lifestyle. They are deprived of the basic necessities of a healthy childhood. This new project has to start with 80 kids initially. The goal of the project is to provide a nutritious meal and basic education to these children. To kick start this project Promise world wide needs atleast $ 300 per month in order to keep the shelter open for six days a week. But at this moment for monetary reasons they have not been able to start off on the project. If organizations are willing to provide this money Promise world wide can submit this project proposal with detailed financial statements.
How We Started:
Promise World Wide was started in January 2003 by Mrs. Jaya Basu and Mrs. Sushmita Datta, with headquarters in Los Gatos, California.
Since then Promise has rapidly grown and is now registered as a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization with a Board of Directors and an Executive Committee. In August 2003, Promise Charitable Trust was registered in Kolkata, India as a regional subsidiary of Promise World Wide from where Promise’s Indian operations are run.
