Children's Day at the Jungle School print story

October 17, 2012

Helping Honduras Kids, Honduras

On Sept 10th, we celebrated Children's Day here in La Ceiba. It is a very special day for the children in this country. It is their day. The kids had fun being entertained by two clowns that are our own volunteers. They had cake, drinks, pinatas, balloons, small gifts and lots of fun!

Children's Day is celebrated on various days in many places around the world, to honor children globally. It was established in 1954 to protect children working long hours in dangerous circumstances and allow all children access to an education. The UN General Assembly recommended that all countries should establish a Universal Children's Day on an "appropriate" day. Honduras celebrates Children's Day on Sept 10th.
The day is celebrated with music, games, candy, toys and piñatas.
