May 16, 2012 Abriendo Mentes, Costa Rica   Sundays are good for lots of things here in Potrero: taking a nice walk on the beach, participating an action-packed game of soccer, enjoying a delicious batido (smoothie) in the mid-afternoon, and also, for playing community-wide BINGO games!The newly formed El comite del Club de Ninos (think PTA) of our Abriendo Mentes kids had a mission to raise money for the repair and maintenance of the Kids Club. What better way to do so than put together a couple rounds of BINGO? After a few weeks of planning, and securing a total of 35 prizes, our AM BINGO day began without a hitch. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to all that supported our efforts in Turkana and the team (Dodds, James, Susi, Sheila, Domil, Tristan, Douglas, Kuria, Kelly and Edan) traveling over the rough terrain of Turkana County to reach out to the needy and hungry.Extended periods of drought have plagued Turkana for years, affecting the food supply and economy. According to the World Food Programme, recent rain seasons have helped alleviate food strains in the region, but with an impending La Nina weather pattern approaching, any improvements that have been made may be reversed.Concomitant with food insecurity are high levels of malnutrition. Volunteering experiences in Tanzania with TYCEN May 12, 2012 TANZANIA YOUTH CULTURAL EXCHANGE NETWORK(TYCEN), Tanzania My name is Winfrida Abel,A past volunteer from TYCEN project 2011 from Belgium.At the very outset I must say a huge Thank you to TYCEN for allowing me to have these wonderful experiences in Tanzania through volunteer project. It is real difficult to put in writing everything I experienced while volunteering with TYCEN. Anyway, I would like to share my volunteer experiences with TYCEN in a beautiful country known as Tanzania, I joined the project in August 2011, the program had a total of 15 participants both Local and International volunteers.
