Volunteer in Thailand
Taptimsiam School
Submitted by Sei- sei@vru.ac.th
Located in Surin Province in northeastern Thailand, this secondary school teaches about a thousand students aged 12 to 17 and can be reached by a six-hour car ride from Bangkok. Our friend Sei has also offered to help volunteers arrange transportation to the school upon their arrival. The Taptimsiam School is hoping to enlist about five volunteer English teachers for the summer of 2008. Accomodations will be provided for all volunteers. The school asks only that volunteers bring documentation to prove that they are enrolled as students in the United States. Contact ashley@omprakash.org or Sei today!

Located in in a small farming community of 70 households in Maha Sarakham province in northeast Thailand, FCS aims to create youth-driven community development. P’Lam, the director of the project, has expressed sincere interest in bringing volunteer English teachers to the school. Volunteers would be given free room and board for the duration of their stay, and do not need to have any experience with the Thai language. Volunteers will experience full immersion in a rural Thai community. Learn more about our partnership with FCS>>
Development and Education Programme for Daughters and Communities (DEPDC)

DEPDC (www.depdc.org) is a non-profit, free education school that works to prevent the trafficking of women and children into the sex industry or other exploitative child labor situations. Located in Mae Sai, Thailand the school provides free education for children of the local community, whose parents don’t have the money to send them to governmental schools, along with free full time housing to children who are at high risk of entering trafficking or child labor.
Volunteer duties can include anything from teaching classes or showing visitors around to becoming a part of the administrative staff, including fund raising and reporting, or creating your own activities for the children. Also you can use your professional skills to teach the children and the staff. Volunteering at DEPDC is an opportunity to help underprivileged children and learn about the work DEPDC does to combat the trafficking of women and children.
