Current & Past Volunteer Stories

Want to know what it might be like to volunteer abroad?

Omprakash volunteers have been posting stories, photos and even videos from their time abroad since 2007. We now have an extensive collection of personal stories from volunteers who've worked with our partners abroad. You can browse through the most recent stories below or use the category selection tool to narrow your search. Alternatively click on the Stories tab for each organization we work with to see specific accounts from a particular organization. Be careful - you might lose a couple hours of your day in here! Happy reading.

New things print story

Seeds of Hope Peru
Laura Avram

I would like to begin this by saying that today was the first day when I was able to help with a kid´s Spanish homework in its entirety (so far, I could only do snippets) ! I read a story with him and then we did a mind map of the story together (sort of a reduced version of the story in some tables.) Moreover, I was able to correct his spelling and his grammar ! Exciting, right ? (excited about my Spanish skills, I mean, not about the fact that I had to correct the child´s Spanish.)

Also, since the volunteer designed to take care of the food most of the fays has left yesterday, I am now the new Seeds of Hope cook !

We have also added a new task to those volunteers had so far (cleaning the bathroom, watching the children on the street, when they leave and controlling the little baskets with school items so that no items are lost) - the task of arranging the bookcase.

Remember how excited I was about a week ago that we had just arranged all the books in the bookcase ? It looked awesome. It´s been a week and it´s sort of a mess again. This is why, in order to preserve our hard work, we are going to check the bookcase at the end of each day and put things back in order.

Moreover, I was able to get even more information about school drop-outs, Huaraz and Seeds-related, which I will add tonight in another classroom ressource.
