EdGEstands for
Education through Global Engagement.Since 2012, Omprakash has worked to raise critical consciousness through our human-centered learning platform. We've been saying it for over 10 years — and we certainly weren't the first — but finally, thankfully, it's catching on:

Good intentions are not enough.

We believe that to be effective agents of social change,
we must understand the reality we seek to transform.

Want more explanation? Perfect.
That's the whole idea around here.

But don't just take our word for it.

Here's what our students have to say about EdGE:

Quote EdGE changes your perspective on international volunteering like no other. It helps you reevaluate any prejudices and biases you may not even be aware you have, and learn how to best be an informed and engaged intern. It gives you extremely valuable resources and a network of people to help along the way.

EdGE Curriculum

Our standard EdGE curriculum is 10 units long. We begin with reflection on our own contexts, intentions, and assumptions, and then we zoom out to try to understand why our world looks the way it does. How can we reconcile narratives of 'progress' and 'development' with the realities of unprecedented economic and environmental inequality? Then we dig deep into buzzy concepts like 'culture,' 'community,' and 'social change,' striving to move beyond sentimental rhetoric and towards a more nuanced vision for ethical engagement across differences. Finally, we end on the topic of storytelling. How can you use our multimedia digital storytelling platform to share your experience, raise consciousness, amplify multiple voices, and challenge dominant narratives?

In our custom programs, we adapt this core curriculum to meet the specific needs and visions of our collaborators — or we invite them to create their own curriculum from scratch! Over the years, and in partnership with many collaborators, we have compiled a rich library of content, and we are always excited to expand.

Dedicated One-on-One Mentorship

EdGE Mentors are thoughtful, compassionate educators with professional and academic experience across a range of geographic and thematic areas. Students request mentors who work with them throughout their experience, either 1:1 or in small groups. In custom programs, collaborators can bring their own mentors to the program, or can use ours to deepen students' learning.

EdGE offers learning resources and digital tools to help each participant create a robust and polyvocal multimedia portfolio showcasing their reflection, dialogue, and ongoing observations. Some programs focus on formal academic research, while others revolve around more intimate modes of storytelling. Participants explore techniques such as ethnographic observation, qualitative interviewing, and community mapping, and grapple with complex questions around research ethics and the politics of representation. All of your posts aggregate to your public profile, giving you an easy way to share your experience with friends, family, and collaborators.
